Btw, Gerardo Cagapisto is the guy who wrote the first of the Libri Feudorum - which is a collection of books we now take as reference, in the past in a too strict manner, for Feudal Law.
That he's the most elected Consul in the history of Milan and has shit in his name and got insulted for it by some, and is one of the fathers of the most famous feudal legal code, is all altogether an insane crossover.
Just one more aspect of the decline of Western civilization. I doubt that I could legally change my name to John Shitass, but now that this custom has been brought ro my attention, I reaally really want to.
Nice! (And sorry for ruining the best part––I was just telling someone else that Wickham is a great writer but very serious, maybe even a little dry a times, so this part really hits you out of nowhere.)
What a gem. Wickham is excellent, though I've only read his more survey books, Medieval Europe and Inheritance of Rome

Oh, that's wild. Thanks for sharing!

On second thought, "Shitass" is sort of common. "Shittoad" would be a classier surname.
Yeah it's gotta be something you wouldn't think to combine shit with.
I'm beginning to think our libraries must overlap quite a bit. I just picked up that Wickham book.

So "caca" means "shit" in Italian. Who knew?
